So what we got here is the Wyze Cam OG which is a really small outdoor/indoor security camera with built-in spotlights that can be used to record in full color at night, it can of course also record in black and white using infrared lights.

Now to get all the functions of this camera, like AI detection and view full event recordings you do need a subscription but if you can live without that, the camera works just fine without a subscription and you can access all recordings from the SD card.

The image quality is decent, nothing amazing but I think it should be good enough to identify someone up to maybe 5 meters from the camera. At night you can’t really see any details when there is movement so unless they are really close to the camera and standing still you won’t be able to identify someone. It gets a little better when using the spotlight for full-color night vision.

Overall I think its a good camera and I don’t think you are going to find a much better security camera for this price. The build quality seems to be good and it has an IP65 rating so it should be weatherproof. The camera is powered by a USB cable that is kind of short, maybe 1.5m so that can be a problem if you don’t have an outlet nearby.

The camera records in 1080p at a maximum of 20fps with a 120-degree field of view. And it has an 8x digital zoom. This camera works with the Wyze App and you will get push notifications when motion is detected that you can view in the App saved on the Micro SD card.

The notifications are not instant though, I think you get them every 5 minutes or something. If you don’t have a subscription the camera will detect any motion so you might get a few false alarms but we can adjust the sensitivity and set detection zones to help reduce false alarms. It supports up to 256GB MicroSD card.

Unfortunately no ONVIF or RTSP so you have to use the Wyze app to access the camera. It comes with a built-in microphone and a speaker so it supports 2-way audio. And you can use an alarm siren to scare away any intruders. The camera is connected using WiFi and it only works with 2.4ghz.

So to connect to the camera we first need to download the Wyze app from the Google Play Store or App Store. When you have the app opened just tap on the plus icon to add a new device and then cameras, Wyze Cam OG, and just follow the on-screen instructions. And that’s it.
