Vstarcam C16S WiFi Outdoor Security Camera Review
This is a review of a small bullet camera from a company called Vstarcam which sells a wide range of different IP cameras.
The camera we decided to review today is a waterproof outdoor/indoor WiFi security camera that records in 1080p and comes with a standard lens of 4 mm and with a viewing angle of 92 degrees.
It supports up to 128GB microSD card for local storage and it also uses loop recording which means when the SD card is full it will automatically delete old recordings and replace it with the newest. And if the camera loses connection to your network it can still record to the SD card.
The camera also supports Onvif 2.4 which makes it easy to use together with other brands that also support Onvif. Up to 4 users can view the camera at the same time and you can access it either from your Smartphone or from your PC. You can get email or app notifications when motion detection is activated.
For night vision the camera uses two infrared lights with a distance of up to 10 meters.
In the box, you get a User Manual, Power Adapter and when I bought this camera they had a promotion where they give you an extra 3 m power extension cable which can be really useful when installing the camera so it might be worth checking out and see if they have any promotions going on.
We have a mounting bracket, a pair of screws with anchors, the camera, of course, an ethernet cable, and lastly the antenna.
The first time you access the camera you need to use the network cable and then later on add your WiFI in the App.
After you have downloaded and installed the App from either Google Play Store or App Store all you need to do is click on add device and then scan the QR code and wait for the App to find your camera. You need to set a personal password for the camera and then click on add it.
Now when we are connected to the camera we can add our WiFi. To do that click on the settings symbol at the top right corner and then click WiFi then find your WiFi and add the password, now you can disconnect the ethernet cable if you wish.
In Video settings you can change if you want night vision to be automatic or if you want it turned off. You can change Horizontal or vertical depending on how the camera is mounted and you can also change between indoor or outdoor. Some other settings are brightness and contrast and if you want the time to show on screen.
In Alarm settings, you can turn On and Off motion detection, change how sensitive you want it to be and you can also add your email for notifications when the camera is triggered. Unfortunately, it dosen’t have zones so if there is movement anywhere on the screen it will trigger the camera.
After you installed the SD card into your camera you might want to first format it in the SD card settings. Here you can also change when you want the camera to record on the SD card, the settings you have are no recording, motion recording, recording and schedule recording.
And then on the home screen, you can click on the SD card symbol to watch clips when motion was triggered. If you want cloud storage you will get the first 3 months free and then after that, it’s $2 a month for 7 days of footage and a little bit cheaper if you buy for a whole year.
Overall this is a decent camera for the price. It doesn’t have that many features but image quality is good for both day and night and it is waterproof so it should have now a problem withstanding the elements.
