This is a battery-powered security camera that is completely wire-free and can be placed anywhere. Well, not really anywhere, since it needs to be within 10m of your router to have a stable connection. So that’s something you need to have in mind if you are planning on buying this camera.

As with most battery-powered security cameras, image quality is not the best since these cameras are designed to consume as little power as possible to save battery life.

When the camera detects motion, it will wake up start recording, and send you a push notification to your smart device with a 6-second alert clip (or 30sec if you have a cloud subscription) but you can watch the full recordings saved on the SD card by going to playbacks.

You can adjust how long you want the camera to record for when motion is detected, anywhere from 6 seconds up to 1 minute. And of course, you can watch live view anytime you want from your smartphone as well as manually record videos.

Motion detection worked really well and I didn’t have a single false alert during the week or so I tested the camera.

The camera records in 1080p at 20fps with a 165-degree wide-angle lens. It supports up to 64GB Class10 SD card and they also have their own cloud subscription if you want to use that, and the cheapest one I think costs 7.50 USD a month for one camera with 7 days of loop recordings.

The camera is made for outdoor use with an IP65 rating which means it should have no problem being placed in heavy rain. The recommended working temperature is -10 to 60 degrees Celsius.

The camera is powered by four, 18650 batteries which are included in the box with a charger. And according to Kami, the batteries could last up to 6 months. That’s probably a stretch but it all comes down to how often the camera wakes up and how long you set the camera to record for.

And over the few days I tested the camera, the battery indicator was unchanged and that’s with a bit over 200 alerts set to record for one minute.

In the box, we got the camera, wall mount, charger, four 18650 batteries, an extra sealing, reset pin, instructions manual, camera stand, and a bag with screws.

I like the design of the camera and it feels like high quality even though it’s made of plastic. So on the front of the camera, we have the lens, PIR sensor, light sensor, and an LED indicator. For night vision it uses 8 Infrared lights that you can’t see right now.

On top we got the power button and on the sides the speaker and the microphone. To access the batteries we need to unscrew the back cover. And in here we also have access to the SD card slot and the reset button.

Accessing the camera through the APP is really easy and only takes a couple of minutes to set up. So first download the Kami Home APP from either Google PlayStore or App Store depending on what device you are using.

Register a new account or log in if you already have one. Then click on the + icon and select Kami Wire-free outdoor camera. Press the power button on the camera and wait until you hear “Waiting to connect” then click on “I heard waiting to connect”.

Select your network enter your password and then hold the QR code in front of the camera lens. When successfully connected you will hear “Connection successful”.

Here on the main page, we can access Alerts, Cloud, and In Discover, you will find App settings and links. If we click on the camera we can watch live view and by tapping one time on the screen it will switch between playbacks and live view.

And then we got the buttons for, recording video, taking snapshots, talking through the camera, turning on the audio and small screen.

In the top right corner, we will find the settings menu. The APP is lacking some features in my opinion and I hope they will keep updating and improving the APP. Something that I would like to see them add in future updates would be motion detection zones and the possibility to record longer than one-minute videos.
