Imou Versa Outdoor WiFi Spotlight Security Camera Review
This a very affordable small weatherproof WiFi security camera that can be used outdoors as well as indoors. And what’s nice with this camera is that there is a magnet inside the bracket so you can mount this camera on any steel without having to drill screw holes to mount it.
The camera records in 1080p and even though the image quality isn’t the best, I would say you can probably identify someone up to maybe 5m from the camera. At night the camera can record normal black and white infrared night vision as well as full color using the built-in spotlight.
The spotlight can be motion-activated. The image quality at night was not very impressive, it was very grainy, and hard to see any details. Same when using the spotlight for full-color night vision.
This camera is all made of plastic but I think the built quality is good I’m sure it will last for a long time even outdoors. The camera is powered by a USB cable and it comes with an adapter.
The camera records in 1920 by 1080 at 30fps, which is kind of high fps compared to other similar cameras. It supports human detection and normal motion detection, you can also use detection zones and adjust the sensitivity to reduce false alarms. However, I did get notifications even when there was movement outside of the detection zone so it’s not 100% accurate. Hopefully, this is something they can fix with an update.
This camera works with the Imou Life app you will get instant push notifications when the camera detects motion, which you can view directly in the app from playbacks saved on the micro SD card. It supports up to 256GB SD card. You can also use their cloud service if you want but that’s optional.
You should be able to connect the camera to most brand NVRs or software since it supports ONVIF. I did connect the camera to the ONVIF device manager without any problems but I couldn’t watch live view since ONVIF device manager doesn’t support H.265 but the RTSP stream worked using VLC player. The camera does not have a web interface.
You can talk and listen through the camera…it also has a loud siren you can use to scare away intruders…
So what we get in the box is the camera, USB cable, adapter, quick start guide, Screws, and a mounting plate.
To connect to the camera we need to download the Imou Life app from Google Playstore or app store. When you have the app opened, tap on the plus icon to add a new device, then scan the QR code on the camera and just follow the on-screen instructions.
When we are connected to the camera we can watch the live view, view multiple cameras, change image quality, and turn on and off the audio and full screen. Down here we can take a snapshot, speak, record, turn on the siren and cloud subscription.
To access the playbacks we tap here and we can switch between the cloud and the SD card.
Up in the top right corner, we got all the settings. And I will just quickly show you the most important ones. In notifications, we can turn push notifications on or off.
In detection, we can turn on motion detection and human detection, adjust the sensitivity, and set a detection zone.
In the local storage rule, we can set the video quality and set a recording schedule, for example, if you want the camera to record 24/7.
In night vision we can select which night vision mode we want.
