This is the new Imou Knight 4K, a spotlight outdoor security camera with built-in 600 lumens LED floodlights that will automatically turn on when the camera detects motion. But is it really worth the hefty price tag? Let’s find out!

This camera was released sometime last year but there are very few reviews online of this camera so I don’t know if Imou skipped on marketing for this camera or what but anyway I decided to pick one up from Aliexpress to test out.

And so far I really like this camera. It is a very easy camera to use and set up, just put an SD card in the camera and you are good to go. No need for a cloud subscription (even though it is available if you wish). And a 256 GB SD card gives you about 16 days of recordings before it starts to overwrite old recordings.

You can use it as a standalone camera or you can connect it to an NVR if you want. It also supports ONVIF so most brand NVRs or software should work if they support ONVIF.

I think the 4k image quality was good and you can easily identify someone up to maybe 15 meters at daytime. The camera also uses HDR which we can turn on in the app to automatically correct the exposure.

At night using infrared image quality was decent, you can definitely see what’s going on, and not too much ghosting. When using the spotlights for full-color night vision it was a bit better I think and maybe you can identify someone if they are close enough to the camera.

The camera uses a 8mp sensor and records in 3840 by 2160 at 15fps. The camera I have uses a 3.6mm lens but they also sell it with a 2.8mm lens which gives a more wide field of view. It also has a 8x digital zoom.

Something I think worked really well was the AI detection. The camera can tell the difference between vehicles, humans, and pets. It also supports line cross-detection and detection zones.

Another thing that is kinda unique with this camera is that it supports WiFi 6 and both 2.4ghz and 5ghz WiFi. I don’t have a WiFi 6 router but the WiFi range was good both with 2.4 and 5ghz. You can also connect a network cable to the camera if you want.

Supports 2 way audio so you can talk and listen through the camera. It also has a 110db alarm siren and flashing spotlights when it detects motion. This can of course be turned off.

The camera is made for outdoor use and comes with an IP66 rating. This means the camera is weatherproof and I think the quality of the camera seems to be decent. It’s all made of plastic.

You can’t connect to the camera using a web browser. And to connect the camera to the app is really easy. First, download the app from Google Playstore or app store depending on what device you are using. When you have the app open, tap on the plus icon to add a new device and then scan the QR code on the camera and follow the on-screen instructions. And that’s it.
