Logitech Circle 2 Review: Is It Worth it for Home Use?
There is a wide assortment of home security cameras being sold on the market. Some are cheap and pretty basic, while others are feature-packed and pricey.
Launched at around $180, the Logitech Circle 2 is an indoor and outdoor wired home security that leans more towards the latter.
An Upgrade to the Original Circle
A follow-up to the Logitech Circle released in 2015, the Circle 2 comes in wired and wireless variants. Today, we’re focusing on the wired version.
Ditching the ring design for a more cone-shaped aesthetic, the Circle 2 is a step-up from its predecessor in every which way, from aesthetics, durability – it comes with an IP65 weatherization rating that allows it to operate in temperatures from –4 degrees to 122 degrees Fahrenheit – and features.
At its core, the Circle 2 has a 180-degree field of view of up to 1080p Full HD resolution, with motion detection, night vision (up to 15 feet) and two-way audio. It’s a huge boost from the original Circle, which could go up to 720p and had a field of view of 135-degrees. It is also compatible with Amazon Alexa, Apple HomeKit, and Google Assistant, making it the ideal companion for the modern homeowner.
Upon purchase, the Circle 2 comes with free storage for up to 24 hours of video clips. For $4 per month, you can extent that with a Circle Safe subscription per camera. Or, if you want additional security features, like person detection and smart-alert filters, among others, you can shell out $10 per month for a Circle Safe Premium subscription per camera.
Households with up to five Circles 2 cameras can also avail of a discount for $7 for the Circle Safe Basic Home Plan and $18 per month for the Circle Safe Premium Home subscription.
There are also additional accessories for the Circle 2 available for purchase. For $40, you can buy a Window Mount to mount the Circle 2 on any window pane so you can cover the surrounding areas of your home without necessarily having to install the camera outdoors. There is also the plug mount for $50 for the wire-free Circle 2, and a weather-proof extension cord for $30 for the Circle 2 wire that extends the power cord of the camera.
Is the Logitech Circle 2 Worth its Price?
Easy to set-up and offering excellent compatibility with today’s most prominent voice assistants – Amazon Alexa, Apple HomeKit, and Google Assistant – the Logitech Circle 2 is an interesting choice. Especially when you factor in the wide coverage that the 180-degree field of view offers.
Unfortunately, the wired version can be a bit limited. Relying on an adapter for power severely limits your options out of the box. You can buy accessories to help compensate for this, but that only serves to jack up the price to a rather unreasonable amount. For that, the Logitech Circle 2 wired doesn’t deserve an outright recommendation.
Verdict
The wired version of the Logitech Circle 2 is an excellent home security camera. It’s neither too expensive, nor too cheap, and has all of the necessary tools to keep up with other feature-packed security cameras at its price point, like the Google-owned nest.
The picture quality is great, and the coverage is generous. But, because of the wired model’s severe limitations, the Logitech Circle 2 is best used only if you don’t mind installing your camera close to an outlet, which makes outdoor use fairly difficult.
