Defender has been around for a long time and earned a good reputation when it comes to surveillance system. And today we will go over the Defender Sentinel 4K POE security camera system to see if its worth buying.

If you are not familiar with POE (Power Over Ethernet} it basically means you only need one Ethernet cable between the camera and the NVR for power, data and audio. And that’s why POE security systems are so popular. Installation is so much easier using POE.

So this Defender Sentinel 4K system comes with 8 cameras that records in 4K at a maximum of 15fps. The cameras are made of metal with an IP66 rating so you can place them outdoors in the rain. And they have a working temperature between -40 °F ~ 122 °F. 

And like most modern cameras they support AI human detection, which means they can tell the difference between a human and other moving objects. This drastically reduces false alarms.

Since they have built-in spotlights they can record in full color at night. And you can set the cameras to only turn on the spotlight when motion is detected. When there is no detection they will use Infrared lights for normal black and white night vision.

The NVR comes with a pre-installed 1TB hard drive and according to defender it should give about 400 hours of recordings before it starts to overwrite the old recordings. This surveillance system works without internet however if you want to use the app for remote viewing and get notifications you need to connect the NVR to your router.

This is a fairly new system when I write this but there are a few reviews on Amazon and it seems like people who bought it are happy with it. Most seem to agree that the image quality is really good and they also like how easy it is to use with the Defender app.
